Open Data
Perce-Foule is a research project (2017-2020) funded by an Investissement d'Avenir of Labex (ANR-10-LABX-0039-PALM). It investigates the dynamics of intermediate-to-high-density crowds.

Its main goal is to pave the way for a mechanical framework for the dense crowd dynamics, with a physics-based approach combining controlled experiments, modelling, and passive real-life measurements. We will also compare various methods of pedestrian tracking. We are in particular interested in the use of Kinect cameras, which preserve the privacy of the pedestrians.

Results have been analysed and published!

Snapshot of a crossing     After a long period of data analysis dedicated to pedestrian tracking, we have finally analysed the results of the controlled experiments that we performed on June, 26th 2017. The results are unexpected to a large extent and particularly interesting for the validation of models for crowd dynamics.
We have collected them in the following manuscripts:

* Appert-Rolland, Cécile, Pettré, Julien, Olivier, Anne-Hélène, Warren, William, Duigou-Majumdar, Aymeric, Pinsard, Etienne, Nicolas, Alexandre, "Experimental Study of Collective Pedestrian Dynamics", submitted to the Proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Pedestrian and Evacuation Dynamics (2018).

* Nicolas, Alexandre, Kuperman, Marcelo, Iba~nez, Santiago, Bouzat, Sebastian, Appert-Rolland, Cécile, "Mechanical response of dense static crowds to the crossing of intruders", Scientific Reports 9 105 (2019).

In an open data initiative, we have decided to make our data available here.

Passive measurements of pedestrian flows

Kinect-based image     In addition to controlled experiments, we are conducting a campaign of passive observations of pedestrian flows in natural conditions with our privacy-respective technology. This will provide us with a very large amount of pedestrian trajectories, collected over several months in diverse settings.

Controlled experiment on 28th, June 2017

Controlled experiment     To all students, researchers, technicians and staff member of Université Paris Sud, come and PARTICIPATE in our next controlled experiment! Let's meet in the gymnasium (room C) of Bâtiment 225 on the Orsay campus on Wednesday 28th June at 16:30. Refreshments will be served and you will be REWARDED for your participation either with a USB stick (8Go, or even 36 Go) or with a mini-external battery to load your smartphone.
(Optional) Pre-registration HERE.
Nota: This experiment has been approved by the local Ethics Comittee (C3E) and was endorsed by Service Prévention et Sécurité of the University.

Participation is open to all voluntary adults aged between 18 and 60, not suffering from agoraphobia or incompatible medical condition (arm or leg injuries, advanced pregnancy, etc.), in the limit of the first 80 registered participants. Heels are forbidden. The experiments will be filmed from above.
